The ICE Unit with dual display is equipped with a hand-held controller called an Audio Tactile Interface (ATI). IMPORTANT: ONLY ONE (1) BALLOT WILL BE COUNTED. Voters are allowed up to 2 replacement ballots. If you are voting by mail (absentee) and you make a mistake, just call the Election Office at (863)763-4014. The spoiled ballot will be sealed in an envelope and a replacement will be issued. If you are voting at your polling place, just ask for another ballot. If you make a mistake on your ballot, please do not erase or use white out. However, the ICE Unit will also allow a black or blue pen to be used when voting by mail (absentee). The ICE Unit may not recognize these marks.Īt the polling place or early voting site a special pen is provided for marking the ballot. Voters should not mark their ballot with an X or a check mark. The voter should completely fill in the oval to ensure their vote will count. The ballot is designed with ovals printed to the left of each candidate's name or issue. If the voter has voted for more than one candidate in a race where only one vote is allowed, the tabulator will reject the ballot and allow the voter the chance to mark another ballot the ICE Unit will also reject a completely blank ballot. The voter places their voted ballot into the ICE Unit at the polling place or early voting site. With the audio/visual ballot marking capabilities and optical scanning built in to one unit, the ICE Unit with dual display is truly a private and independent voting experience for all voters. The new ICE Unit with Dual Display is the only optical scan tabulator using a single paper path that does not require ADA voters to cast their ballots on a separate device. The ImageCast Evolution (ICE) voting system allows us to use the same paper ballot method as we are accustomed in Okeechobee County. We do not anticipate that there will be a longer wait to vote than before as the ICE machine can handle up to 4,000 voters in one day.Okeechobee County received new voting equipment in 2017. To accommodate all voters voting by paper ballot, the City has purchased an additional 10 voting booths which will be set up on Election Day. Voters will now only have to fill in the circle next to their choice instead of having to connect two arrows with a line. One important thing to note is that the paper ballots will now have a circle to fill in next to each candidate or contest. This will allow voters to return the erroneous ballot to the poll workers for spoiling and obtain a new ballot which can be voted correctly. It will replace all of the other three voting machines that the City was previously using (2 electronic machines and one paper machine).Ī benefit of the ICE is that if there is an error made on a ballot by a voter, the ICE will reject the ballot and state on the screen what error has occurred. This new machine is called the Image Cast Evolution (ICE) and is a paper ballot only machine.
